About this tool

What is the Server Response Time Checker?

A server response time checker measures how long a server takes to start responding (time to first byte) and to finish sending the page. Slow responses delay everything that follows, including Core Web Vitals.

Measured from a server in Sydney, Australia.

This tool fetches the address you enter once, from our server, and reports what a crawler would receive. The URL is not stored; only a short-lived rate-limit counter is kept. Results show the page at the moment of the check and can differ from what a logged-in browser or a bot with different headers sees.

Guide

How to read the result and act on it

Look at time to first byte first. Google's web.dev guidance treats a TTFB under roughly 800 milliseconds as good for real users, and lower is better since it leaves more of the loading budget for rendering. If the number is high, check the usual causes: slow hosting, no page caching, heavy database queries, missing CDN, or long redirect chains before the real page. Add full-page caching, upgrade the plan or move to a closer region, and trim slow plugins or queries. Then measure again several times at different hours. Compare the total download time as well, which grows with page size and weak compression.

Common mistakes to avoid

Relying on a single measurement is the main error, since response times vary with server load, cache state and network path. The first request after a cache purge is often slower than later ones, so test more than once. Measuring only the homepage hides slow templates such as search, cart or category pages. Comparing a result from a distant test location with your own local experience can mislead you, as can ignoring redirects that add time before the final page. Do not assume a fast server fixes poor Core Web Vitals on its own, because rendering and script weight also matter. Use field data to confirm what real visitors experience.

Next steps

Use this with

  • Core Web Vitals Checker: Check a URL with PageSpeed Insights data: real-user Core Web Vitals when available, plus lab scores.
  • Compression Checker: Check whether a page is served with gzip or Brotli and how much it saves.
  • Page Size Checker: Measure the HTML size of a page and count its linked resources.

No. Run it a few times; times vary between requests.
The URL is requested by our server and the timings are shown to you, not stored. Avoid URLs with private tokens, since they are sent to the target site as part of the request.
Not exactly. The request starts from our server location, not a visitor's device, and excludes browser rendering. Treat it as a server-side indicator, repeat it a few times, and confirm real-user speed with field data in PageSpeed Insights.
