About this tool

What is the URL Parameter Cleaner?

A URL parameter cleaner removes tracking parameters such as utm_source, gclid and fbclid from a list of URLs. Clean URLs are easier to compare, share and compile into sitemaps and reports.

It runs entirely in your browser. Nothing you paste or upload is sent to a server or stored.

Guide

How to read the result and act on it

Compare the cleaned list with your original to confirm only tracking and unwanted parameters were removed. Typical removals include utm_ tags, gclid, fbclid and similar click identifiers. Then check that parameters which change page content, such as category, page or product variants, are still present where needed. Use the cleaned list for sitemaps, reports, backlink exports, crawl comparisons and deduplication in a spreadsheet. After cleaning, remove duplicate rows, because many tracked URLs collapse into the same clean address. If you plan to use the list for redirects or canonicals, test a few samples to verify they load the same content as the original.

Common mistakes to avoid

The riskiest option is removing all parameters, since many sites use them for pagination, filters, language or product selection, and stripping them can point to a different or broken page. Add extra parameters to remove deliberately, one per line, rather than guessing. Removing fragments after the hash is usually safe for reporting but may drop in-page state. Another mistake is cleaning URLs for analysis and then assuming the live site handles tracked versions properly; use canonical tags and correct internal links for that. Do not paste URLs that include personal data or session tokens into any shared document. Keep an untouched copy of the original list for reference.

Next steps

Use this with

  • UTM Link Builder: Build consistent campaign URLs with UTM parameters, lowercased and cleaned.
  • Canonical Tag Checker: Check a page's rel=canonical in the HTML and headers, and whether it points to itself.
  • Keyword List Deduplicator: Remove duplicate and near-duplicate keywords, strip punctuation and sort your list.

Only tracking ones by default. Parameters like color=red are kept unless you choose to strip all.
No. The tool runs in your browser and nothing is stored or sent to a server. Your list stays on your device, though you should still avoid pasting private tokens into shared screens or documents.
Because processing happens in your browser, large lists work as long as your device has enough memory. Very large pastes may slow the page, so split huge files into batches if the page becomes unresponsive.
