About this tool

What is the Keyword Cannibalization Checker?

Keyword cannibalisation happens when two or more of your pages rank for the same query and split clicks and signals. Paste a Search Console export with query and page columns to see the queries that appear on more than one URL.

Cannibalisation is a diagnosis, not a penalty: sometimes two pages for one query is fine, but often it means a page needs merging or differentiating.

It runs entirely in your browser. Nothing you paste or upload is sent to a server or stored.

How to read the result and act on it

The output flags queries where more than one of your URLs earns impressions, so read it by query importance. Start with queries that have meaningful impressions or clicks and sort the competing URLs by clicks and average position. If one page clearly leads and the other is a weak secondary result, strengthen the leader and consider a canonical, redirect or internal link adjustment. If both pages serve the same need, merge them into one stronger page and 301 the other. If they serve different intents, rewrite titles, headings and anchor text so each page has a distinct target. Re-export the data after a few weeks to see whether one URL now consistently owns the query.

Common mistakes to avoid

A common mistake is treating every query shared by two URLs as a problem. A homepage and a category page may both appear for a brand search, and that is normal. Judge by intent and by whether the pages answer the same need. Another error is deleting a page just because it appears in the report, which can throw away links and traffic; check backlinks and clicks before merging. Do not rely on position averages alone, since an average can hide a page that swaps with another day to day. Also avoid fixing symptoms with noindex when the real issue is two pages with overlapping purpose.

Questions, answered

No. The text is read in your browser and discarded when you close the tab.
No. Merge when both pages answer the same need. If the intents differ, keep both and sharpen titles, headings and internal links so each page has a clear, distinct purpose.
They give a rough hint of overlapping pages, but they are not precise. Search Console data showing which URLs actually appear for a query is a more reliable basis for decisions.
