About this tool

What is the Sitemap URL Extractor?

A sitemap URL extractor reads an XML sitemap (or the child sitemaps in an index) and returns the page URLs as a plain list. Use it to feed a crawler, audit coverage or compare against your indexed pages.

This tool fetches the address you enter once, from our server, and reports what a crawler would receive. The URL is not stored; only a short-lived rate-limit counter is kept. Results show the page at the moment of the check and can differ from what a logged-in browser or a bot with different headers sees.

Guide

How to read the result and act on it

Once you have the list, count the URLs and compare it with what you expect. A sitemap with far fewer pages than your site suggests missing sections, while far more can mean parameter or archive pages leaking in. Paste the list into a crawler to check status codes, titles and indexability in bulk, or into a spreadsheet to group by folder and spot thin sections. Compare it with URLs in Search Console or your analytics to find pages that are listed but never indexed, or indexed but missing from the sitemap. Sort by path to see how content is distributed across categories, then prioritise audits on the largest groups.

Common mistakes to avoid

A frequent mistake is extracting only the sitemap index file and not the child sitemaps it points to, which gives a list of sitemaps instead of pages. Another is treating the list as proof that URLs are live; entries can be outdated, redirected or blocked. Duplicates across child sitemaps should be removed before comparison. Watch for http and https or www variants that make two lists look different when they are not. Do not forget that sitemaps listed only on a competitor's site are public, but use any extracted data responsibly and respect the site's terms. Finally, save the date of extraction so later comparisons are meaningful.

FAQ

Questions, answered

Output is capped to keep the page responsive; the result states if it was trimmed.
The sitemap is fetched by our server and the list is shown to you, not stored. Only public sitemaps can be read, because the request carries no login or cookies.
The sitemap may be incomplete, split across child sitemaps, or restricted by CMS settings. Check the index for other files and confirm your plugin includes every post type. A sitemap lists only what the site chooses to submit.
