About this tool

What is the Image Compressor?

An image compressor reduces an image's file size by re-encoding it at a lower quality and, if you choose, a smaller width. Smaller images load faster, which supports page speed and Core Web Vitals. This tool works entirely in your browser.

It runs entirely in your browser. Nothing you paste or upload is sent to a server or stored.

Guide

How to read the result and act on it

Set the format and quality, then compare the before and after sizes. A good result is noticeably smaller with no visible damage at the size shown on your page. If you need a specific limit, such as a form that accepts only 100 KB, enter it as the target and the tool will search for the highest quality that fits. Use the width option to scale down oversized photos, which saves more than quality changes. Always view the preview at full size before replacing an image.

Common mistakes to avoid

The usual mistakes are compressing an already small image repeatedly, which degrades it, and serving a huge image scaled down by CSS. Another is using JPEG for logos or screenshots with sharp text, where PNG or WebP looks cleaner. Remember transparency is lost in JPEG. Keep your original files, and add descriptive alt text and sensible file names when you upload.

  • Favicon Generator: Turn a logo into favicon.ico, PNG icons, an Apple touch icon and web manifest icons in your browser.
  • Page Size Checker: Measure the HTML size of a page and count its linked resources.
