About this tool

What is the YouTube Video SEO Checklist?

A YouTube video SEO checklist lets you tick off the title, thumbnail, description, chapters, captions and engagement basics before you publish, and returns a score with the items still to do.

It runs entirely in your browser. Nothing you paste or upload is sent to a server or stored.

How to read the result and act on it

Work through the list before you hit publish and read the score as a count of basics covered, not a prediction. Look first at the unticked items and sort them by effort: a missing chapter list or caption file is quick to fix, while a weak topic choice needs more thought. Treat title, thumbnail and the first lines of the description as the high-impact items, because they decide whether someone clicks. Then check engagement items such as a clear hook and a call to action that fits the video. Save your results for future uploads, and reuse the same checklist so every video reaches the same baseline before you move on to experiments.

Common mistakes to avoid

Do not tick a box just to raise the score. A title that technically contains the keyword but reads badly does not help, and a thumbnail can be the right size and still be unclear. Another mistake is spending hours on tags or hashtags while ignoring the opening seconds of the video, which affect whether people keep watching. People also run the checklist after publishing and then edit constantly, which makes it hard to see what worked. Do not treat the checklist as a replacement for a good topic or useful content. Finally, avoid copying the same description and tags onto each video, since each upload should describe its own subject.
